Paternity

The legal recognition of a father is paternity. If the child is born into a married couple, the father is assumed to be the husband, but this can be disputed. If the mother is not married, a father may voluntarily step forward or she may request the courts to test the DNA of certain men. After being biologically proven to being the father, he will be legally responsible for the raising of the child. This may mean paying child support.
